Executives to retire from Sanford leadership positions
Two top executives at Sanford Health have announced retirement plans, and the system has named their replacements.
Becky Nelson, senior vice president and chief operating officer, will retire during the first quarter of 2014. Nelson joined Sanford in 1975 as a nurse and was promoted to her current role in 2007 after serving as president of Sanford USD Medical Center.
Nelson will be succeeded by Nate White, the chief operating officer for the health services division in the Sioux Falls region. White is a graduate of Augustana College and the University of Kansas who practiced law privately before joining the Sanford legal department in 2006.
White will be succeeded by Sanford USD Medical Center chief operating officer Randy Bury, who has been with the system for more than 30 years and has served in various leadership positions.
Also retiring from his position is Dr. Pat O’Brien, Sanford USD Medical Center's president. He will retire from his role in July to assume a new position with Sanford Health Enterprise Cardiovascular Services. O’Brien is a cardiologist by training.
O'Brien will replaced by Paul Hanson, president of Sanford Medical Center Bemidji.
Sanford also has promoted two executives serving in interim roles to permanent positions.
Cindy Morrison, vice president of public policy and interim executive vice president of marketing, will be the new executive vice president of marketing in July.
Also in July, JoAnn Kunkel will become chief financial officer after serving in the position on an interim basis.
