Sletten, Band Instructor at Earlham Community School, Earlham, Iowa, was presented
this morning with The Golden Apple award for the month of November by WHO-TV 13
and Allied Insurance. Sletten was
nominated by four current students for the award.
WHO-TV Morning News
Anchor, Megan Reuther, opened the presentation with a greeting to Earlham
students and teachers, encouraging students to achieve their goals and dreams
by continuing to work hard in school.
Reuther introduced Jennifer Nemmers, Allied Insurance Project Management
Specialist from Des Moines to present the award.
Nemmers read excerpts from
the nominations that praised Sletten for sharing his passion for music and his
unique ability to motivate students, pushing them to accomplishments they
didn’t realize they were capable of achieving.
Sletten has taught at Earlham Community School for 5 years and has
doubled the size of the school band within that time.
This is the 19th
year that WHO-TV 13 and Allied Insurance have given The Golden Apple Award to
central Iowa teachers. One teacher is
recognized each month of the school year.
